There is Enough for Everyone's Need

Image
When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed.  But there is enough in the world for everyone's need, but not for everyone's greed. Everyone in our society ignores it. My idea is not that I have jealous of rich, but my idea is that why a labor do not get his correct wage.  Most of the cases they are working overtime but not getting their actual wages. “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have too little.” Read More... Self-dependency Was Learnt From My Mother

Image
Self-dependency was learnt from my mother. She used to say that if we don’t have anything to eat then don’t ask from others, also do not let them know. Reason behind this may be, they will laugh on our situation rather than any help.  She taught me to always work hard at whatever you do. At the end of the day you can take pride in the work that you do and know that you've done your best. I learned this from the way she lived her life and still does to this day.  She always goes above and beyond in her work and her personal life for others. I had seen her working with hunger because she used to feed us first. So she takes her food in the evening.  Read More... That Fear of Being Singled out Never Left Me

Image
Low wage workers increasingly struggle to support themselves and their families with their wages. Abusive employer practices and stagnant minimum wages prevent many workers.  That fear of being singled out never left me; I wore it like a weighted vest. I felt the stigma of poverty every hour, even in my own home, but I never admitted to friends how desperate my situation was. Most people don’t see themselves as sitting on that bottom rung as a defense mechanism.  The more they blame poor people for their poverty, the further they feel from being in the same place. But now things gone smooth. My hard work and school performance draw attention of many people, and they stand together to support us. Thus our social life came up. We had not done anything special, but we had done the same things as others do but in other way. My thinking gone broader as difficult we were doing as a routine, impossible may take a little longer. We had started to leave in the new house. After coming out of ancestral home, we take a fresh breath, peace of mind and freedom to work.  Besides part time job I started working in our agricultural land. As a result we had developed our home within in a year. We had food for our animals from our fields and little food grains also.  My examination for class eighth started. Whole year I was very busy in my domestic needs so everyone in my house other than me worried about my result because these are Board examinations. When We Had to Leave Our Ancestral House

Image
I left everything on God and continue hard work with my mother. I started budgeting my home and some saving with that income. Time was favoring us and our life was coming on track.  But what almighty desires no one know. My uncle and aunts were very jealous with our condition of life. They had neither helped us nor happy with which we are doing and started arguing with us.  Gradually, this argument reached at a stage that is very difficult for us to stay there. One day when I came back from school, I found no one in my home. I asked the neighbors and they told me that they had left my ancestral house and moved a plot outside the village. I rushed there and asked to go back to our home.  My mother asked me not to go back will continue to stay in an open plot. Then I rushed to one of my friend’s father and told him the story. His father had helped us by making a hut in our plot and we start living there. We said thanks to our uncles & aunts for their arguments tha...

Tomorrow Never Comes

Years ago a man named "Hathi" was living my neighboring village. He was very strong in physical. There were no public transport that time nor do the people have money to afford.  One day "Hathi" went to see some of his relatives around twenty miles away. While coming back to home he saw a heavy stone used for mixing & grinding home construction material. He planned to carry it to his village. So he lifted it on his shoulder and brought to his village. Near to his house there was a Panchyat Ghar. Lot of aged people sit there in the evening for "Hooka." When he was passing through they called him asked for "Hooka." Saying that he is coming from a long distance and have some water and rest. Tomorrow will place it at the right place. Hathi urged them to place the stone at the right place but they stopped him doing so. That stone remained there. In 1985 Government launched a scheme to lay down stone in the streets of the villages. Then this stone...

The Power is in the Doing, not in the Talking

Image
The monthly wage of my mother was rupee three hundred at that time. It was offered by a group of thirty people. I had to collect the money from them. Many of them were not giving in time. For ten rupee I had to them for several times, two third of them were paying after almost two or three months later. Then it became very difficult to tell them when they had paid last. One day one gentlemen among them had asked me to make a list and hand over to him saying “I will collect from everyone and hand over to me” I was very assured on his saying. But after few days he turned back and told me that he could not arrange time to meet every one and hand over the list to me with some money. He also assured me if someone is asking to come again then he will pay for him. Then I understood the saying “Going through the motions of blabbing about your goals is much different than putting that first foot forward and stepping towards your goals.” The power is in the doing, not in the talking. I started Early to be on Time, But

Image
When I was in the 7th grade, my two younger brothers also started going to school, which resulted increase in our spending. I was not in favor of making them realize our poverty. Thus I searched for the new source of income in addition to my mother's wages.  Honestly hard work has shown its color and we took back our farm which my uncle had as a hostage. Waking up early in the morning milking the pets, feeding them and distributing newspapers was my morning routine. Then on my way to school, I had to leave the milk container at the shops at my bus stand.  After school straight to home and feed my brothers then making arrangement to feed pet animals in my house. Then visit our fields to bring grass for my pets and cutting it with "Gandasa” for the next day. In evening milking the pets. Thus I had no time to meet any of my school mate. During this busy schedule I was so tired that usually I miss my dinner and go to sleep and later it became my habit. Read More... Cont’d जब...
