Hawkers In Today’s Society

You can use hawker to refer to someone who tries to sell things by calling at people's homes or standing on the street, especially when you do not approve of this activity. You can go to any market or street or neighborhood; you will meet hawkers selling their wares. They go from place to place shouting to sell their wares. They sell all kinds of things like sweets, potato-chickpeas, balloons, clothes, toys etc.

The life of a hawker is very difficult. The poor thing leaves the house early in the morning. He roams around the market all day. He comes back home in the evening. Usually they are from hand to mouth. His income is very less.

It is very interesting to see the daily schedule of a hawker. He usually gets up early in the morning. Then he gets ready to go about his business. He knows which roads are suitable for his business. He carries his belongings on his back or head. Some hawkers have hand carts in which they carry their wares. Some hawkers hire coolies to carry their goods.

He goes to his favorite spot in an alley. He cries out loudly in praise of his wares. Passers-by and people from nearby houses come to buy his goods. When customers come, they are shown the goods. He initially demands a high price. Then he agrees to accept the lower price. Even after this he earns a good profit. Thus the poor man goes from one place to another.

But in today's era many types of hawkers are found. Firstly, those who send text messages through email or SMS to their known and unknown person to earn money. Others, who send the referral link to their friends and family members and earn commission. Last but not the least there are tele marketers who sell their goods through advertisements and earn a lot of money but are most respected in the society as compared to the basic hawkers who carry their goods from one place to another.
