The festivals celebrated in India give the message of the victory of good over evil in one way or the other but the festival which is known for this message is Dussehra. Exactly twenty days before Diwali. According to the Panchag, the Dashami of Shukla Paksha of Ashwin month is celebrated all over the country as Vijayadashami or Dussehra. Dussehra is one of the major festivals of Hindus. This festival tells the story of Lord Shri Rama, who, after 9 days of continuous war in Lanka, killed Ahkari Ravana and freed Mother Sita from her captivity. 

On this day, Mother Durga also killed Mahishasura, hence it is also celebrated as Vijayadashami and mother Durga is also worshiped. It is believed that Lord Rama also invoked the power by worshiping Mother Durga, after examining Lord Rama, one of the lotus flowers kept for worship disappeared. Since Shri Ram was called Rajivayanan i.e. the lotus with eyes, he decided to offer one of his eyes to the mother as soon as he started removing his eyes, the Goddess appeared pleased and gave him the boon of victory. 

It is believed that Lord Rama killed Ravana on the day of Dashami. This festival of Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and Mata Durga over Mahishasura is celebrated all over the country as the victory of good over evil and religion over unrighteousness. Different styles of celebrating it have also evolved in different parts of the country. Dussehra of Kullu is very famous all over the country, Durga Puja is also celebrated on a large scale in many states including West Bengal, Tripura. 

Dussehra is considered to be the biggest symbol on the caste of good over evil. Navratri Dussehra is the main festival of Hinduism. This festival is celebrated as the victory of good over evil and victory of truth over untruth. Every year this festival is celebrated on the Dashami date of Ashwin month Shukla Paksha. There is a tradition throughout the country to blow effigies of Ravana on the day of Vijayadashmi. 

On this day, Maa Durga and Lord Rama, both should be worshipped. This will destroy all obstacles and you will get victory in life. Worshiping weapons on this day is very beneficial. Arms are worshiped on the day of Dussehra, on this day both weapons and scripture have special significance in the Sanatan tradition. भारत वर्ष में मनाये जाने वाले त्यौहार किसी न किसी रूप में बुराई पर अच्छाई की जीत का संदेश देते हैं लेकिन असल में जिस त्यौहार को इस संदेश के लिये जाना जाता है वह है दशहरा। दीवाली से ठीक बीस दिन पहले। पंचाग के अनुसार आश्विन मास की शुक्ल पक्ष की दशमी को विजयदशमी अथवा दशहरे के रुप में देशभर में मनाया जाता है। दशहरा हिंदूओं के प्रमुख त्यौहारों में से एक है। यह त्यौहार भगवान श्री राम की कहानी तो कहता ही है जिन्होंनें लंका में 9 दिनों तक लगातार चले युद्ध के पश्चात अंहकारी रावण को मार गिराया और माता सीता को उसकी कैद से मुक्त करवाया। 

वहीं इस दिन मां दुर्गा ने महिषासुर का संहार भी किया था इसलिये भी इसे विजयदशमी के रुप में मनाया जाता है और मां दूर्गा की पूजा भी की जाती है। माना जाता है कि भगवान श्री राम ने भी मां दूर्गा की पूजा कर शक्ति का आह्वान किया था, भगवान श्री राम की परीक्षा लेते हुए पूजा के लिये रखे गये कमल के फूलों में से एक फूल को गायब कर दिया। चूंकि श्री राम को राजीवनयन यानि कमल से नेत्रों वाला कहा जाता था इसलिये उन्होंनें अपना एक नेत्र मां को अर्पण करने का निर्णय लिया ज्यों ही वे अपना नेत्र निकालने लगे देवी प्रसन्न होकर उनके समक्ष प्रकट हुई और विजयी होने का वरदान दिया। 

माना जाता है इसके पश्चात दशमी के दिन प्रभु श्री राम ने रावण का वध किया। भगवान राम की रावण पर और माता दुर्गा की महिषासुर पर जीत के इस त्यौहार को बुराई पर अच्छाई और अधर्म पर धर्म की विजय के रुप में देशभर में मनाया जाता है। देश के अलग-अलग हिस्सों में इसे मनाने के अलग अंदाज भी विकसित हुए हैं। कुल्लू का दशहरा देश भर में काफी प्रसिद्ध है तो पश्चिम बंगाल, त्रिपुरा सहित कई राज्यों में दुर्गा पूजा को भी इस दिन बड़े पैमाने पर मनाया जाता है। 

दशहरा को बुराई पर अच्छाई की जात पर सबसे बड़ा प्रतीक माना जाता है. नवरात्रि दशहरा हिन्दू धर्म का प्रमुख त्योहार है. इस त्योहार को बुराई पर अच्छाई की जीत और असत्य पर सत्य की विजय के रूप में मनाया जाता. हर साल यह पर्व आश्विन मास शुक्ल पक्ष की दशमी तिथि के दिन मनाया जाता है. पूरे देश में विजयादशी के दिन रावण के पुतले को फूंकने की परंपरा है। 

इस दिन मां दुर्गा और भगवान राम दोनों की पूजा की जानी चाहिए। यह सभी बाधाओं को नष्ट कर देगा और आपको जीवन में जीत मिलेगी। इस दिन हथियारों की पूजा करना बहुत फायदेमंद होता है। दशहरे के दिन शस्त्रों की पूजा की जाती है, इस दिन सनातन परंपरा में शस्त्र और शास्त्र दोनों का विशेष महत्व है। शास्त्रों की रक्षा और आत्म-रक्षा के लिए शस्त्रों का उपयोग धार्मिक तरीके से किया जाता है।
