Stress: State of Anxiety
The state of anxiety or mental tension arising due to any difficult situation is called stress. Stress is a natural human response that motivates us to deal with challenges and threats in our lives. Every person experiences stress to some degree. Stress can occur when you have too many responsibilities and are struggling to manage them. If your family is going through a difficult time, such as bereavement or financial problems, if you belong to a religious group that faces discrimination.
Sometimes, a little stress can help us accomplish tasks and feel more energetic. However, stress can become a problem when it lasts for a long time or is very intense. In some cases, stress can affect our physical and mental health. You may hear health care professionals refer to certain types of stress as 'acute' or 'chronic'.
Acute stress occurs within minutes to hours of an event. It lasts for a short time, usually less than a few weeks, and is very intense. This may happen after some upsetting or unexpected event. Whereas chronic stress persists for a long time or keeps coming back. You may experience this if you are often under a lot of pressure. You may also feel long-term stress if your daily life is difficult.
Being prepared for periods of stress can make it easier to recover from them. In addition, knowing how to manage our well-being can help us recover after a stressful event. Some of us may refer to our ability to manage stress as our resilience.
