The sixth form of Maa Durga is named Katyayani. The story of his name being Katyayani is as follows - There was a famous Maharishi named Kat, whose son a sage was named Katya. The world famous Maharishi Katyayan was born in the tribe of these katyas. He did very hard penance of Bhagwati Para Amba for years. He wished that Maa Bhagwati was born as a daughter to his house. Mother Bhagwati accepted his prayer. 

After some time, when the tyranny of the demon Mahishasura greatly increased on the earth, then Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, after giving their share of power and generated a goddess for the destruction of Mahishasura. Maharishi Katyayan first worshiped him. For this reason, it was called Katyayani. 

Mother Katyayani gives unfailfull results. He is revered as the presiding deity of Vrajmandal. His form is very grand and divine. Her colour is a bright phosphor like gold. She has four arms. Her right upper hand is in Abhayamudra and lower is in Vara mudra. The sword in the upper left hand and the lotus flower in the lower are embellished. The lion is her conveyance. Her form is worshiped on the sixth day of Durga Puja. On that day the mind of the seeker is located in the "command cycle". This "command cycle" has a very important place in yoga practice. The mind of seeker situated in this chakra makes his own call at the feet of Maa Katyayani. Such devotees who surrender completely, they get the view of Maa Katyayani in a natural way. 

By devotion and worship of Mother Katyayani, man gets all the results of meaning, religion, work, salvation very easily. He becomes supernatural fast and effective even while in the world. His diseases, grief, sorrow, fear etc. are completely destroyed. There is no easy way to worship the mother to eradicate the sins of births. मां दुर्गा के छठे स्वरूप का नाम कात्यायनी है। उनका नाम कात्यायनी होने की कहानी इस प्रकार है। कत नामक एक प्रसिद्ध महर्षि थे, जिनके पुत्र कात्य नाम के एक ऋषि थे। विश्व प्रसिद्ध महर्षि कात्यायन का जन्म इन कत्यों के गोत्र में हुआ था। उन्होंने वर्षों तक भगवती परा अम्बा की बहुत कठिन तपस्या की थी। उन्होंने कामना की कि माँ भगवती उनके घर एक पुत्री के रूप में जन्म लें। माँ भगवती ने उनकी प्रार्थना स्वीकार कर ली। 

कुछ समय बाद, जब पृथ्वी पर राक्षस महिषासुर का अत्याचार बहुत बढ़ गया, तब भगवान ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और महेश ने अपनी शक्ति का हिस्सा देकर महिषासुर के विनाश के लिए एक देवी उत्पन्न की। महर्षि कात्यायन ने सबसे पहले उनकी पूजा की। इसी कारण से इसे कात्यायनी कहा जाने लगा। 

माँ कात्यायनी अमोघ फल देने वाली है। वह व्रजमंडल के पीठासीन देवता के रूप में पूजनीय हैं। उनका रूप बहुत भव्य और दिव्य है। इनका रंग सोने जैसा चमकीला भास्वर है। उनकी चार भुजाएँ हैं। माताजी का ऊपरी दाहिना हाथ अभयमुद्रा में और निचला हाथ वर मुद्रा में है। ऊपरी बाएं हाथ में तलवार और निचले हाथ में कमल का फूल सुशोभित है। इनका वाहन सिंह है । दुर्गा पूजा के छठे दिन उनके स्वरूप की पूजा की जाती है। उस दिन साधक का मन "आज्ञा चक्र" में स्थित होता है। योग अभ्यास में इस "आज्ञा चक्र" का बहुत महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है। इस चक्र में स्थित मनवाला साधक माँ कात्यायनी के चरणों में अपना स्वयं का आह्वान करता है। ऐसे भक्त जो पूर्ण समर्पण करते हैं, उन्हें माँ कात्यायनी के दर्शन सहज तरीके से हो जाते हैं। 

माँ कात्यायनी की भक्ति और आराधना से मनुष्य को अर्थ, धर्म, काम, मोक्ष के सभी फल बहुत आसानी से मिल जाते हैं। वह लोक में रहते हुए भी अलौकिक तेज और प्रभावी हो जाता है। उसके रोग, शोक, दुःख, भय आदि पूरी तरह से नष्ट हो जाते हैं। जन्मांतरों के पापों को मिटाने के लिए मां की आराधना से आसान कोई रास्ता नहीं है। उनके उपासक लगातार उनके सनिध्य में रहता है और परम पद का अधिकारी बन जाता है। इसलिए, हमें एक सर्व-प्रिय मां की पूजा के लिए तैयार होना चाहिए और उसकी पूजा करनी चाहिए।
