The Procedure

My boss always tried to find fault. In every work he commented, you did not follow the procedure. I was on fire crew duty at the time. We received a call from a gentleman who said that there was a fire in the grass near the plane parking. We reached the spot and the fire was extinguished. There was no loss of life and property. 

My boss was also present there, he told me that I did not follow the procedure. Everyone will be aware that the prescribed procedures are for practice only and not for emergencies. Apart from my boss, everyone was praising for the work done by our team; because we had prevented a major disaster by reaching on time.  

A few days later, we received a call from the boss's house at around nine o'clock in the night that his house had caught fire. By the time we reached the spot with our equipment, there was a lot of crowd. After reaching at the spot, I followed the full prescribed procedure which lasted for 30 minutes; by that time, the fire had destroyed every household item kept in the house. He asked me to meet him at his office the next day.  

Next morning I went to his office. Then he started saying that all the processes needed to be conducted yesterday itself; When my house was on fire. I responded politely; Sir, all emergencies are equal for us and should be dealt with in the best and least possible process and not with undue delay. Because losses from fire are national losses. मेरा बॉस हमेशा दोष खोजने की कोशिश करता था। हर काम में उसने टिप्पणी की, आपने प्रक्रिया का पालन नहीं किया। मैं उस समय दमकल की ड्यूटी पर था। हमें एक सज्जन का फोन आया, जिसमें कहा गया था कि विमान पार्किंग के पास घास में आग लगी है। हम घटनास्थल पर पहुंचे और आग को बुझा दिया गया। जान और माल का कोई नुकसान नहीं हुआ था ।  

मेरे बॉस भी वहां मौजूद थे, उसने मुझे कहा की मैंने प्रक्रिया का पालन नहीं किया है। सभी इस बात से अवगत होंगे कि निर्धारित प्रक्रियाएँ केवल अभ्यास के लिए होती हैं, आपात स्थितियों के लिए नहीं। मेरे बॉस के अलावा हमारी टीम द्वारा किए गए काम के लिए सभी लोग प्रसंसा कर रहे थे; क्योंकि हमने समय पर पहुंचकर एक बड़ी आपदा को होने से रोक दिया था।  

कुछ दिनों बाद, हमें बॉस के घर से रात के करीब नौ बजे फोन आया कि उनके घर में आग लग गई है। हम अपने उपकरणों के साथ घटनास्थल पर पहुंचे, तब तक वहां काफी भीड़ जमा हो गई थी। मौके पर पहुंचने के बाद मैंने पूर्ण निर्धारित प्रक्रिया का पालन किया जो 30 मिनट तक चली; उस समय तक आग ने घर में रखे हर घरेलू सामान को नष्ट कर दिया था। उसने मुझे अगले दिन उसके कार्यालय में मिलने के लिए कहा।  

अगले दिन सुबह मैं उनके ऑफिस गया। फिर उन्होंने कहना शुरू किया कि कल ही सभी प्रक्रियाओं का संचालन किया जाना जरुरी था; जब मेरे घर में आग लगी थी। मैंने विनम्र तरीके से जवाब दिया; महोदय, सभी आपात स्थितियां हमारे लिए समान हैं और इन्हें सबसे अच्छी और कम से कम संभव प्रक्रिया से निपटा जाना चाहिए और अनुचित देरी से नहीं। क्योंकि अग्नि से नुकसान राष्ट्रीय नुकसान होता हैं।
